Indonesia spends very little on scientific research compared to other G20 countries. In 2016, the Government of Indonesia established a new annual science fund of IDR 100 billion. The fund is a milestone in Indonesia's efforts to improve its research capacity and to ensure that research funding is awarded through a transparent, competitive and merit-based process.
This working paper describes how the Indonesian Academy of Sciences and other key actors contributed to the establishment of the new fund.
