Social protection and children: Opportunities and challenges in Ghana

Briefing/policy paper

Written by Nicola Jones

Briefing/policy paper

This is one of several reports and policy briefs produced as part of a regional study on social protection and children in West and Central Africa, which included in-depth case studies in Ghana and four other countries (Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Mali and Senegal). The Ghana report reviews the existing social protection programmes in the country, analysing the extent to which they are contributing to the reduction of poverty and vulnerability among children and their caregivers. It also analyses underlying capacity constraints and financing issues, and makes a series of policy recommendations to strengthen social protection and ensure that programmes benefit the poorest children and their families.
