Description
On the occasion of the Global Trade and Financial Architecture (GTFA) steering committee meeting, the the Overseas Development Institute, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and the GTFA invite you to participate to a roundtable discussion on the future of international institutions and trade.
The first session will feature a presentation by Ernesto Zedillo, former President of Mexico, Director of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization, and Chair of the High Level Commission on Modernization of World Bank Group Governance, on the recently released report “Repowering the World Bank for the 21st Century”. Discussants will include Ngaire Woods, Professor at Oxford University, who will present a strategic plan for implementing the suggested reforms.
The second session will feature two brief presentations by Patrick Messerlin, Director of the Groupe d’Economie Mondiale de SciencesPo Paris, and Bernard Hoekman, Director of the Trade Department, The World Bank, on the multilateral trade agenda (the Doha round and beyond) and architecture, with a special focus on the role of rules and transparency mechanisms (such as the GTFA-co-sponsored Global Trade Alert, Global Antidumping Database, and Services Trade Restrictiveness Index).
A roundtable discussion will follow each of the presentations. Chatham House rules will apply.
