Leaping and learning: strategies for taking agricultural successes to scale in sub-Saharan Africa
Description
To gather more evidence and seek feedback from agricultural development practitioners in sub-Saharan Africa, ODI and Ag4Impact worked with the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN) to host regional workshops in Johannesburg (9th July), Nairobi (11th July) and Accra (13th July). The attendees of these workshops were a mix of NGOs, foundations, government, large and small private enterprise, and various aid organisations.
The main aims of the workshop were:
- To present our working understandings, derived from synthesising existing cases
- To compare these insights to views of practitioners and policy-makers
- To learn of other cases, especially those that may imply modifications to the working understandings
- To make contacts and friends working on the same issues
Dr. Steve Wiggins of ODI presented the findings of his project literature review, setting out a draft five-point policy framework for assessing ‘what works’ for smallholders.
