Description

Do cash transfer programmes effectively address issues of social exclusion, including on the basis of gender, age, ethnicity and disability?  How could beneficiary involvement enhance the effective implementation of cash transfer programmes? How can programmes be made more transparent and implementers more accountable? Can these programmes create sustainable pathways out of poverty and destitution?

These and other questions will be explored in an ODI event which will present  findings from Transforming Cash Transfers, a DFID-funded study that investigates beneficiary and community perspectives on unconditional cash transfer programmes in five countries - Kenya, Mozambique, the Occupied Palestinian Territories (both Gaza and West Bank), Uganda and Yemen.

This research has a strong focus on innovative participatory and qualitative approaches, including participatory photography in Mozambique and Kenya, the products of which will be shown in a week long photography exhibition in the OXO Gallery on the South Bank from the 24th April until 29th April 2013. Some of these photos will also be displayed at this event.
