Despite the inherently political nature of international negotiations on climate change, much of the theory, debate, evidence-gathering and implementation linking climate change and development assume a largely apolitical and linear policy process. As the issue continues to dominate agendas, it is timely to propose a new political economy of climate change and development in which explicit attention is given to the way that ideas, power and resources are conceptualised, negotiated and implemented by different groups at different scales.

The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) and the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) are pleased to jointly present the findings of the CDKN funded project examining the Political Economy of Climate Compatible Development.

This event will bring together an expert panel to discuss how power and political economy influence the development and uptake of Climate Compatible Development Policies. The panel will share and showcase findings across three case studies undertaken, reflect on the utility of and approaches to political economy analysis in supporting climate compatible development goals, and provide a forum for exchange of ideas and reflections of the work to date, and possible ways forward.

The event will be preceded by coffee and pastries, and followed by networking and buffet lunch.
