Session 1. Introduction
The session was opened by the President of EBA Moldova, Ms. Silvia Radu, who underlined the importance of the project for Moldova and potential implications of the ERD results for policy adjustments and development of the country.
Prof. Louka Katseli described in her presentation the main objectives, methodology, scope and role of the ERD.
Mr. Wicher Slagter informed about the role of the EU support – political and financial for the development of Moldova.
Ms. Olga Melniciuc described the main programs, supported by the Govenment ,for business development of the country.
Mr. Alexandru Fala emphasized the importance of an analysis of risks, which come from EU-Moldova Association Agreement, Russian interests in the Transnistrian region and other issues.
The session was closed by a coffee break.
Session 2. Country Study Progress
This session was opened by Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, who informed the workshop participants about the scope of country illustrations.
Dr. Olesea Ghedrovici dedicated her presentation to the Moldovan Country Illustration report, the main preliminary observations, findings, and conclusions.
Dr. Dorina Clichici described the role of financial and banking sector for economic transformation.
Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya offered his suggestions and comments for Dr. Olesea Ghedrovici ‘s paper and the Country Illustration report.
The session was followed by lunch for all participants.
Session 3. Support and observations for Country Study of Moldova
Chair of the session Dr. Jouko Kinnunen underlined the main findings of his commissioned paper based on the Moldova MAMS study.
Mr. Ronny Bechmann shared his thoughts about challenges and successes of Moldova’s economy over the last years and importance of some specific transformations.
Mr. Dietrich Hahn described the purpose and role of GIZ-funded project on regional development and governance and argued in favour of of common donors fund for successful distribution of foreign aid.
The discussion was followed by Mr. Ion Veverita, who explained the role of the National Bank in maintaining financial stability of the country and Mr. Andrei Craciun who commented on the availability and quality of statistical data.
A small coffee break followed.
Session 4. Conclusions
Ms. Mariana Rufa emphasized the importance of ERD and major challenges for Moldova’s development in future years.
Ms. Rodica Miron informed participants about the role of USAID support for Moldovan social and economic transformations, especially in the agricultural and IT sectors.
Prof. Louka Katseli concluded on Moldova’s prospects in view of the DCFTA , its transformational challenges and the need to develop a coherent sustainable development strategy.

Moldova social transformation has been achieved in part through significant reductions in poverty, underpinned by economic transformation through strong economic performance and effective economic policies. The workshop addressed the financial and non-financial means of implementation that have supported transformative change in Moldova, within the wider context of sustainable development. The workshop included participants from the Ministry of Economy, Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, USAID and private sector representatives including the World Bank.
