Description

2015 is a landmark year: governments agreed the Sendai framework on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan in March. In New York in September, they will agree the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), followed by a global climate accord in Paris in December.

Delivering on the promise of global development commitments – including the possibility to end extreme poverty by 2030 – requires building resilience to the growing impacts of climate change and disasters.  This panel event and audience discussion (livestreamed online) looks at how strengthening resilience can help deliver the Sendai and SDG commitments in an integrated and effective way.

Speakers will discuss the need to make a ‘business case’ for investments in climate resilience and the role of the private sector in increasing resilience. A disaster specialist from India will frame the challenges of implementing the Sendai and SDG commitments from the perspective of a huge, rapidly growing developing economy. CDKN is also delighted to screen its new film For a safer future – Insights on climate resilience from India, produced with the Gorakhpur Environmental Action Group, TERI India and ICLEI.
