The Sustainable Development Goals and the Education 2030 agenda recognise that gender equality is inextricably linked to the right to education for all. Achieving gender equality requires an approach that ensures both girls and boys to both gain access to and complete education cycles, but are empowered equally in and through education. While great progress has been made in getting girls into school and improving learning outcomes at all levels, persistent gender inequalities continue to limit access and undermine the transformative potential of education.

ODI and UNGEI share new knowledge on good practice approaches to teaching and learning that enable transformative change and gender equality in education.The event fosters discussion about what works well in achieving targeted changes to girls’ education that contribute to their empowerment. Furthermore, it explores how the structural roots of gender inequality in education can be addressed effectively.
