Description

This Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) side event focuses on strengthening the role of climate science, earth observation and information technologies for building resilience.

The speakers highlight the importance of communicating science information, and the attribution of climate change to the occurrence of extreme weather events and its impacts. Their presentation draws on the ‘Raising Risk Awareness’ project, which brings together climate science, development, policy, planning and communications expertise from a range of countries to understand the contribution of climate change to the occurrence of extreme weather events in South Asia. They also highlight the experiences of a Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) initiative which aims to tackle the heat threat in India, working with city level authorities in Ahmedabad. Science and communication have been central to the initiative’s success.

The event also features key initiatives to promote the contribution of the role of earth observation, shares good practice on the use of technology in disaster risk management, and highlights some of the latest information technologies for building resilience.

This event is open to anyone registered to attend the AMCDRR 2016 in New Delhi.
