Stephanie Buell is a development practitioner with significant field experience, having worked on governance programming in francophone West Africa in 2011-2014 and then in emergency response in some of the largest emergencies in 2015-2017 including Nepal, Lebanon, Mali, Ethiopia, the Mediterranean Search and Rescue effort, and Yemen.

Over the last two years at ODI, Stephanie has developed a particular focus on operationalisation of research, and better integrating evidence into programme design and policy-making – becoming the first Research Fellow at the Institute specialising in Development Policy and Practice. This has allowed her to use her skills in ‘translating’ research into practical guidance and recommendations for direct use in programming.

Prior to this role, Stephanie successfully managed the Secure Livelihoods Research Consortium, a ten-year global research consortium which looking at the ways in which people recover from conflict.

Stephanie holds a BA in politics from New York University (NYU) and a MSc in humanitarian emergencies and international development from the London School of Economics (LSE). She is a bilingual French/English speaker and has an established network of development practitioners at INGOs and bilateral donors working in country and field offices across the world.
