Sean Fox

Research Associate
Sean Fox is a Lecturer in Urban Geography and Global Development in the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol. His core research is concerned with understanding the causes and consequences of world urbanisation, as well as the political economy of urban development, particularly in Africa and Asia. He also conducts research into contentious politics, violence and interactions between conflict and the environmental/ecological change.

Prior to joining Bristol Sean was a Teaching Fellow in the Department of International Development at the London School of Economics, where he completed his PhD. Between 2006 and 2011 he was a Research Associate with the DfID-funded Crisis States Research Centre. He is co-author of the book Cities and Development (Routledge 2016) and has published research in journals including Environment and Planning C: Government and Policy, Journal of Peace Research, Political Geography, Population and Development Review and World Development. He has also served as an advisor on urban development issues for a range of organisations including Care International, Department for International Development (DFID), Oxfam, UN-HABITAT, UN Economic Commission for Africa, and the World Bank.
