Announcement – ODI Executive Director stepping down

Written by Alex Thier

Press Release

ODI Executive Director, Alex Thier, announced today that he’ll be stepping down from his role at the end of May 2019. 'My time at ODI has been an amazing opportunity to work with so many great people on the causes that have motivated me throughout my career, and ODI since its founding, such as fighting the roots of poverty, inequality, and injustice, and making it possible for every person to thrive on a healthy planet. For personal and professional reasons, my family and I have decided to move back to the U.S.'

Chairman of the Board, James Cameron, said: 'Appointed by the board in September 2016, Alex led the Institute to look beyond the horizon to identify the critical trends that will determine the future path of global development. Under his leadership ODI created a compelling new five-year strategy and new mission statement for the organisation, brought leaders together all over the world, and delivered important and influential work.'

While on sabbatical until May, Thier will be working on research and writing about the future of fragility, technology, and development, including ODI publications in the coming months.

Simon Gill and Sara Pantuliano are serving as Acting Executive Directors.
