ODI will be at the first Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) after the advent of the Sendai Framework. The event is hosted by the Government of India from 2-5 November 2016 and provides a unique opportunity to shape the implementation and monitoring of the Sendai Framework in Asia.
The aim is to transform the commitment of governments and stakeholders into national and local action and set the direction to accelerate regional implementation and monitoring of the Sendai Framework. ODI has organised various side events and will present research.
The expected outcomes of the conference include a political declaration consolidating the political commitment of governments towards preventing and reducing risk, as well as strengthening resilience by accelerating implementation and monitoring of the Sendai Framework in the region.
The conference also aims to get Asian governments to endorse an Asian Regional Plan for Implementation of the Sendai Framework. Voluntary statements of action of Stakeholder groups are expected to volunteer statements of action towards a ‘shared responsibility’ approach in implementation of the Sendai Framework.
