The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) team has a substantial body of work and experience on issues related to children and young people, who have often been marginalised from development policy analysis and dialogues.

We aim to provide clear evidence-based recommendations around effective policy and practice to promote the rights and well-being of children and young people. Our work spans areas such as gendered childhoods and adolescence, child protection (including child labour, violence against children and child marriage) and promotion of youth livelihoods and voice.

The GESI team leads the longitudinal Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence (GAGE) project which implements large-scale mixed methods research involving vulnerable adolescents in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. GAGE critically assesses programmes aimed at tackling discriminatory gender norms and practices and advances the well-being of young people during their pivotal second decade of life.
