‘Leaving no one behind’: extending social protection to excluded groups

In many low- and middle-income countries, inadequate and low social protection coverage remains a key challenge to effective social protection provision. Informal workers and migrants are two population groups that, despite high levels of vulnerability, are at a high risk of exclusion from social protection.

This project explores the barriers to and opportunities for extending social protection coverage to ‘hard-to-reach’ groups.

Working papers:

  • Informality, women and social protection: Identifying barriers to provide effective coverage
  • Extending social insurance to informal workers: A gender analysis
  • Internal migrants and social protection: a review of eligibility and take-up
