Research Excellence Framework (REF) impact training

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the UK’s system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions. In 2014, for the first time, it took into account the ‘reach and significance of impacts on the economy, society and/or culture’.

ODI’s Research and Policy in Development (RAPID) team has worked for over 15 years around the world to understand how to foster sustainable policy impact with research.

Over the years we have delivered training for UK and international universities on how to maximise, monitor and communicate research impact.

This training course is designed for UK research institutes and university research teams or departments. It supports researchers and academics to design, deliver and communicate their work in a way that maximises its impact in accordance with the REF criteria.

The course comprises six modules:

  1. Introduction to impact
  2. Identifying your impact objective
  3. Stakeholder mapping
  4. Creating your impact plan
  5. Communicating your research
  6. Monitoring, evaluation and learning.
