This UN Women-funded research investigated the multi-dimensional causes and consequences of Violence Against Women (VAW) in India and Uganda

Most specifically, this study involved an in-depth analysis of the vulnerabilities and drivers that sustain domestic violence against indigenous women in the context of social norms, economic poverty and power relations. The team identified various constraints and opportunities for empowering indigenous women and building institutional protection mechanisms to address VAW. Furthermore, our team offered broader recommendations and best practice examples to inform policy making and enhanced assistance for indigenous women.

The research, which consisted of a literature review and primary qualitative data collection, was conducted by ODI researchers in partnership with the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) in India and Makerere University in Uganda.
