The Methods Lab evaluation toolkit

Toolkit/guideline

Toolkit/guideline

The Methods Lab develops and tests flexible approaches to impact evaluation for interventions that are harder to evaluate because of their complexity.

This toolkit brings together analysis, guidance and templates for anyone:

ARE YOU PLANNING AN IMPACT EVALUATION?

Planning is an important part of any evaluation. These tools aim to help improve the quality of impact evaluations, so that they produce results that are useful and acted upon.

ARE YOU DESIGNING A MONITORING AND EVALUATION SYSTEM?

Evaluations are often commissioned towards the end of a project, only to find that the monitoring system doesn’t have adequate or appropriate data. These tools provide analysis and guidance to support evaluators to design a M&E system for policy influence programmes, or for integrating an impact-orientation into the design.

ARE YOU WORKING IN A CONSORTIUM OR MANAGING A PORTFOLIO OF PROJECTS?

Portfolio and consortia programmes have become a popular way to deliver aid. This has many advantages, but can be costly, dilute focus and create confusion. These papers provide guidance to understand and navigate these challenges for evaluation and learning.

Other Methods Lab experts include Irene Guijt, Head of Research for Oxfam Great Britan and Greet Peersman and Patricia Rogers from BetterEvaluation.
