This study, commissioned by the UK Department for International Development's (DFID) Aid Effectiveness and Politics and State teams aims to develop an improved understanding of the merits of different aid instruments in addressing the specific challenges posed by fragile and conflict-affected states and in achieving state- and peace-building objectives. This analysis focuses on processes and arrangements underpinning aid instruments with a view to capturing how these interact with the dynamics of state and peace building.
